Well Mother (2015)
Choreography and performance: Abigail Levine
Music: Ted Coffey
Duration: 16 minutes
Well Mother is a choreographic cycle for one dancer and four 50-foot extension cords, a precisely performed task of unspoken purpose. As the cords are rearranged, they stand as visual records of the effort and events of the dance. A live electronic score alternately supports and pushes against the progress of the dance. Well Mother makes a nod to Robert Motherwell's monumental painting cycle and his devotion to the elegiac work of repetition.
